Lowell Spinners News Release

LOWELL, MASS. - The Lowell Spinners, Class-A affiliate of the Boston Red Sox, will welcome the first round of the 2011 Baseball Beanpot to LeLacheur Park Wednesday, April 20, with the winners playing for the title at Fenway Park, April 26.

The tournament is returning to LeLacheur Park for the first time since 2005.

"We are pleased to welcome the Baseball Beanpot back to LeLacheur Park," said Spinners President and General Manager Tim Bawmann. "Each of the four schools has a long history of producing talented players and we look forward to providing a stepping stone to Fenway Park, much the way we do so for Spinner players."

The day will begin when the Boston College Eagles, led by former Spinners player and coach Mike Gambino, take on the Northeastern Huskies for a 2:30 first pitch. They will be followed, with a scheduled 6:30 first pitch, by a match-up of the Harvard Crimson and UMass Minutemen.

A number of former Spinners players have first attended the very colleges participating in the tournament, notably Jason Twomley who played for the Minutemen in the spring of 2005 at LeLacheur, returning later that summer as a member of the Spinners after being drafted by the Red Sox.

Admission to the doubleheader is $5 for adults and $3 for students and children, which includes admission to both 9-inning games. The LeLacheur Park concession stands will be open and manned by supporters of the UMass Lowell Riverhawks Baseball program, with all proceeds for concessions stands benefiting the team.
