NEW YORK, April 9, 2011 - Oklahoma City Thunder guard/forward Robert Vaden was assigned to the Tulsa 66ers, the Thunder's NBA Development League affiliate, it was announced today. The assignment marks the 55th time in the 2010-11 season an NBA player has been assigned to an NBA D-League affiliate, and it is the first assignment for Vaden, a second-year pro out of Alabama-Birmingham.
Vaden's assignment extends the all-time highs the NBA D-League has seen this season in both total NBA player assignments (55) and individual NBA players assigned (38).
The Thunder signed Vaden from the Tulsa 66ers for the remainder of the season today for the 23rd GATORADE Call-Up of the NBA D-League season. Vaden (6-5, 205) averaged 10.4 points, 2.4 rebounds and 2.2 assists in 45 games (17 starts) in the regular season for Tulsa, helping the 66ers to a 33-17 record and a berth in the NBA D-League Playoffs. Tulsa advanced to the semifinals with a two-game sweep of the Texas Legends in which Vaden averaged 14.5 points and 4.5 rebounds.
Vaden was selected in the second round (54th overall) of the 2009 NBA Draft by the Charlotte Bobcats, who then traded his rights to Oklahoma City in a draft-night deal. Vaden spent last season with Imola in Italy, averaging 16.9 points in 29 games. Vaden played his first two collegiate seasons at Indiana before transferring to Alabama-Birmingham, where he averaged 17.6 points, 4.9 rebounds and 2.1 assists as a senior.
The 66ers will play the winner of the Iowa Energy vs. Utah Flash series (Iowa leads 1-0) in the semifinals. Thunder fans can keep track of Vaden and Tulsa by logging onto nba.com/dleague to watch every game live, online, for free.
