All-SPHL Second Team Announced

CHARLOTTE, NC - The Southern Professional Hockey League on Friday announced its 2010-2011 All-SPHL Second Team as selected in a vote of SPHL coaches and media representatives.

F - Beau McLaughlin, Louisiana IceGators (51 gp, 31 g, 26 a, 57 pts, 7 ppg, 2 shg) F - Michael Richard, Missisisppi Surge (52 gp, 18 g, 42 a, 60 pts, +15, 18 ppa, 4 gwg) F - Frank Furdero, Knoxville Ice Bears (53 gp, 21 g, 41 a, 62 pts, 7 ppg, 3 gwg) D - Jack Wolgemuth, Mississippi Surge (53 gp, 6g, 20 a, 26 pts, +16, 4 ppg) D - Luke Lucyk, Augusta RiverHawks (42 gp, 7g, 28 a, 35 pts, 5 ppg, 2 gwg) G - Jon Olthuis, Augusta RiverHawks (29 gp, 19-9, 2 so, 2.71 gaa, .915 save%)

Beau McLaughlin of the Louisiana IceGators currently ranks fourth in the SPHL in goals with 31.

McLaughlin's 57 points are eighth-most in the league, while he is tied for second with two shorthanded goals.

Michael Richard of the Mississippi Surge is currently third in the SPHL with 42 assists.

His plus-minus rating of +15 is sixth-best while he ranks seventh with 60 points.

Richard's two shorthanded goals are also tied for second-most in the league.

Frank Furdero of the Knoxville Ice Bears is currently fifth in scoring with 62 points.

Furdero is also tied with Fayetteville's Chris Leveille with 41 assists, good for fourth-best in the SPHL.

His 15 power-play assists leads the Ice Bears and ranks him seventh (tied) overall.

Jack Wolgemuth of the Mississippi Surge leads all defensemen in plus-minus (+16 rating).

He is third among blue-liners with 117 shots on goal and currently ranks fourth in goals with six.

Wolgemuth's +16 rating also ties him for the team lead with Rusty Masters.

Luke Lucyk of the Augusta RiverHawks currently ranks second in scoring among defensemen with 35 points, despite missing the last seven games after being loaned to Tulsa of the Central Hockey League.

Lucyk's 28 assists and five power-play goals are second-best among blue-liners, while his seven goals ties him for third-most.

Jon Olthuis of the Augusta RiverHawks leads all SPHL goaltenders with 19 wins and is third in the league with two shutouts.

Also named to the SPHL All-Rookie Team, Olthuis' .915 save percentage ranks third among all netminders, while his goals against average of 2.71 is tied for fourth best.

Olthuis also played two games in the Central Hockey League this season, going 0-1-1 for the Dayton Gems.

The All-SPHL First Team will be announced later today.
