Daniel Antoniuk Signs With FC Edmonton
March 16, 2011 - North American Soccer League (NASL)
FC Edmonton News Release
CASA GRANDE, Arizona - The 2011 NASL season will be FC Edmonton's first in professional soccer but the club gained years of experience yesterday when it signed 30-year-old Striker Daniel Antoniuk to a contract.
Antoniuk began his professional career with the Portland Timbers in 2003. He spent three-years with the club before moving on to Montreal to play with the Impact.
From Montreal, the 6'3" Philadelphia native moved on to Atlanta, then on to the Carolina Railhawks and finally the Charleston Battery.
The 197-lbs goal scorer has achieved the majority of his team success on the indoor pitch however. He won the PASL Championship in 2009-10 and 2010-11 with the San Diego Sockers and also had stints with the Philadelphia Kixx, Chicago Storm, Milwaukee Wave and New Jersey Ironmen.
I've been to a lot of different places, a lot of different cities," Antoniuk said. "But outdoor is my first and foremost love."
Antoniuk led the league in scoring with the Atlanta Silverbacks in 2007 and two years before that, he finished third in the league in scoring with Portland.
I've been to the top in both outdoor and indoor leagues and I want to get to the top with Edmonton as well," he said. "It's really tough to win outdoor championships, really tough. But this is a great group of guys and they all work really hard and that's important if you're going to be a successful team."
There are three days left in FC Edmonton's training camp in Arizona. The team returns home on Sunday before heading off on the road again to start the season against the Fort Lauderdale Strikers on April 9.
