New Britain, CT - The New Britain Rock Cats Foundation - the community-focused Baseball Club's charitable arm - today named The Salvation Army of New Britain as the winner of its 2010 Triple Crown Award.

Located at 78 Franklin Square, the downtown New Britain site is one of 21 Community Centers operated in Connecticut by an international Salvation Army network that annually provides support services to several million individuals in need. While more than ten million Americans were assisted by The Salvation Army in 2009, the New Britain operation was able to extend essential independent living services to well over a thousand local residents in significant need during the same period.

In announcing the 2011 Award earlier today, Rock Cats President & CEO, Bill Dowling, said: "One of the great pleasures of this job is being in position to meet and partner with some of the extraordinary community leaders we are blessed to have here in Connecticut. Among the best are my dear friends with The Salvation Army of New Britain, Majors Stanley and Norma Newton. To say that that they are terrific people - is to state what everyone already knows. What sets them apart professionally is their dynamic leadership skills. Both Stanley and Norma have been given that extra dimension that enables them, more often than not, to successfully complete the ambitious missions they set out for their organization. They enrich our community and we are very pleased to recognize them with the Foundation's 2011 Triple Crown Award".

Stanley and Norma Newton, both in service in New Britain for more than twenty years, will receive the Triple Crown Award on behalf of the organization at the Rock Cats' 2011 Hot Stove Luncheon scheduled for 12 Noon on Friday, January 21st, in the Main Ballroom of the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Cromwell. The respective Majors Newton will be joined at the Hot Stove's head table by Bill Smith, General Manager of the Minnesota Twins, and Ed Randall, the host of WFAN-Radio's popular "Talking Baseball" program.

The local Salvation Army exists to serve the people of greater New Britain in their time of need - either great or small. Each individual is addressed as a whole person with physical, emotional and spiritual needs. The Salvation Army aspires to assist individuals become more independent through a variety of important community services and programs.

The Rock Cats Foundation, a non-profit charitable entity, provides scholarships and other supports to both needy individuals and worthy community-based organizations. The Foundation's Triple Crown Award has been given in each of the last four years to individuals/organizations who have consistently demonstrated a deep commitment to - and record of accomplishment in - a community undertaking that parallels the Foundation's goals.
