B-Sens Burst Into 2010-11 Season With Victory Over Adirondack
October 8, 2010 - American Hockey League (AHL) Binghamton Senators
BINGHAMTON, N.Y. - The Binghamton Senators returned to the ice Friday night, hosting the East Division rival Adirondack Phantoms.
The teams were entrenched in a scoreless battle until 15:52 of the first when alternate captain Cody Bass deflected a shot from Andre Benoit past Johan Backlund and into the Phantoms net to give the B-Sens a 1-0 lead, much to the delight of the hometown crowd. Geoff Kinrade would also earn a helper on the goal.
Less than two minutes later the B-Sens added to their lead, as Kaspars Daugavins found the net for his first of the season, pushing Binghamton to the 2-0 lead. Benoit and Kinrade each earned their second assists of the game on the goal.
Jim O'Brien would go on to notch the only goal of the second, as his shot hit the back of the Adirondack net at the 8:59 mark of that period. Benoit earned his third point of the night with his third assist of the game, while Erik Condra tallied his first point of the season with an assist.
3:59 into the final period of play and Bobby Butler made it a four goal lead for the B-Sens, scoring his first professional goal on a wraparound. Newly named captain Ryan Keller and Corey Locke assisted the B-Sens' rookie.
Adirondack would cut into the Binghamton lead less than three minutes later, as a wrist shot from Patrick Maroon found its way over the left shoulder of B-Sens' goaltender Mike Brodeur to give the Phantoms their first goal of the season. This would, however prove to be too little too late for Adirondack.
The Senators found the back of the net one final time, going on to win 5-1, as Patrick Wiercioch scored his first professional goal with just under three minutes left to play. Daugavins and Condra each assisted, earning their second points of the game.
The B-Sens return to the ice tomorrow as they host the Norfolk Admirals at 7:05 p.m.
