Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees News Release
HIDALGO, TEXAS --- The Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees of the Central Hockey League (CHL) and City of Hidalgo Mayor John David Franz today announced that the team and the city have accepted the challenge issued by the Laredo Bucks and Laredo Mayor Raul G. Salinas to play for the Cricket Mayor's Cup.
Cricket Communications will donate $5,000 to a charity of the winning team's choice.
"We have never backed down from a challenge," Franz said. "Not only do we accept, but we'll even up the ante. If Laredo wins, I'll wear a Bucks jersey during a city council meeting if Mayor Salinas agrees to wear a Killer Bees jersey if the Bees win. In fact, I've already picked out the Killer Bees jersey Mayor Salinas is going to wear and plan to be in Laredo to watch him preside over the Laredo City Council in a Bee's jersey."
The Killer Bees and Laredo Bucks meet 16 times during the 2010-11 season split evenly between each team's home ice. The teams have met 79 times during the regular season since beginning their rivalry in 2003. The Killer Bees are 20-21-5 at State Farm Arena over the course of the rivalry.
The team that earns the most points in head-to-head competition will win the Cricket Mayor's Cup.
The Killer Bees begin their eighth season of play at State Farm Arena in Hidalgo on October 15, 2010. Season tickets and corporate partnership opportunities are available now; call 956-843-7825 to find out more.
