Augusta RiverHawks News Release

The Augusta RiverHawks Hockey Club will be holding their 2010 Free Agent Evaluation Camp this weekend, August 21st and 22nd, 2010 at the Augusta Ice Sports Center at 1249 Augusta West Parkway. Sessions will be open to the public and will take place from 9-11am and 1:30-3:30pm each day. Two full teams comprised of prospective RiverHawks of various hockey backgrounds will battle on the ice for the chance to be invited to RiverHawks Training Camp in October.

Hockey fans in the CSRA are encouraged to come out and catch the action as admission is free and the concession stands will be open. The talent level of the prospects range from former professional and NCAA players to club-level players who feel they never got a true shot at "the show".

The RiverHawks will also be conducting a used hockey equipment sale at 4:00pm immediately following the Saturday session. On sale will be lightly used pro-quality equipment at extremely low prices, perfect for beginner and recreational hockey player alike.

"The response to this camp has been tremendous and is indicative of just how many quality hockey players there are out there," said RiverHawks General Manager Gilles Richard. "We have players from all over the United States and Canada coming to the CSRA to compete for a job. The sessions are going to be extremely spirited and aggressive, and should be entertaining for the fans. For the organization, we are excited to hopefully find a few diamonds in the rough that can make our team in October."

The camp comes alongside the continued effort by Head Coach Brad Ralph to beat the bushes in search of talent to fill the CSRA's new hockey team. This past weekend Ralph attended the Toledo Walleye (East Coach Hockey League) Free Agent Tryout Camp in Toledo, OH.

"This camp was a little different from the one in Niagara, as the players were auditioning for a specific team," said Ralph, who recently attended a free agent showcase camp in Ontario "However, the vast majority of those players will find a home outside of Toledo, so it was a great opportunity to once again make contact with players who have the ability to play on our team. As an organization we are determined to leave no stone unturned in the effort to put a winning team on the ice at the James Brown Arena. "

The camp featured a number of ice times throughout the weekend in both practice and game-format. In addition to giving Ralph the opportunity to evaluate prospective players, the weekend also helps establish the Augusta RiverHawks brand throughout the hockey world. The networking opportunities go a long way to building a pipeline of players that will help the team recruit for years to come

"Augusta and the CSRA have a great reputation in the hockey world as a fantastic place to play," said Ralph. "My job is not just to find good players for this season, but to reinforce the RiverHawks brand amongst fellow coaches and scouts alike. Being part of a non-affiliated league, we need to be a little more aggressive in reminding prospects that the CSRA it is a great place to build a career and lifestyle."

The RiverHawks' inaugural season will begin with a weekend extravaganza October 22nd and 23rd. Information on season tickets and sponsorships for the 2010-11 season are available by visiting www.augustariverhawks.com and clicking on "Tickets", or by calling 706-993-2645.
