Newark Bears News Release

It took just two batters for Lancaster to get on the scoreboard against Ryan Glynn. Michael Woods put a home run onto the grass berm in left to make it 1-0. Newark took their first lead in the series in the home third off Jason Simontacchi. Isaiah Kaaihue and Randy Gress started the frame with back-to-back singles. After Kennard Jones sacrificed the runners over, Pablo Ozuna's sacrifice fly to right and Elijah Dukes' RBI single brought them home and gave the Bears a 2-1 lead.

Lancaster tied it on the very next batter as Adam Witter lined a homer over the wall in right to start the home half. Aaron Herr plated another run to give the 'Stormers back the lead, 3-2. Vic Gutierrez and Witter brought in two more runs in the fourth to push the lead to three runs. Jason Perry's solo shot and a two-run home run off the bat of Reggie Taylor in the fifth gave Lancaster a five run lead and back-to-back doubles in the seventh made it a 9-3 ball game.

Newark clawed back as they batted around in the visitor's seventh. After Pablo Ozuna reached on a two-out single, Elijah Dukes blasted his fifth home run of the season and started a string of back-to-back-to-back home runs from Ward and Everett to bring the Bears within three runs. Singles by Manny Mejia and Kaaihue and a James Cooper walk against reliever Aaron Hinkle loaded the bases, but Perry stole a hit away from Gress with a lunging catch to retire the side.

Simontacchi (4-5) earned the win, firing six and two-third innings, allowing seven runs, six earned, and 11 hits, with one strikeout. Glynn (2-1) took the loss, allowing eight runs and 11 hits, with four strikeouts in five innings of work. Tim Hamulack fired a scoreless ninth to record his four save.
