The NBA Development League Champion Rio Grande Valley Vipers announced today in a press conference that Bert Garcia, who had been the Vice President of Operations for the last year, will become President following the resignation of President Brian Michael Cooper, effective August 1.

Additionally, Vice President of Corporate Sales Nora Cano, will be elevated to Executive Vice President, Director of Business Development Shu Muthyala will be promoted to Vice President of Ticket Sales, Director of Group Sales Nicole Zagata will be promoted to Director or Premium Seating, Director of Community Relations Liana Cisneros will also serve as Group Sales Manager, and intern Analee Flores joins the staff full time as the Sponsorship Fulfillment Liaison.

"Bert has been an integral part of the Vipers since the beginning and he leads a very strong and hard working front office. I have no doubt that the Vipers will continue to flourish with Bert at the helm," Cooper said.

Garcia joined the Vipers during the 2007-08 season, initially as a basketball operations volunteer for head coach Bob Hoffman, for whom he had worked for previously at the University of Texas Pan American. Garcia joined the Vipers' front office full-time in February of that season as a corporate sales manager. He was then promoted to Assistant General Manger of Corporate Sales before assuming his last title.

"Different face, same philosophy - provide family affordable entertainment for the entire community. I'm proud be the first Hispanic President in the NBA Development League and humbled to work with such a great staff," Garcia said.

Garcia was born and raised in Edinburg. He currently resides in McAllen with his wife and two daughters.
