
Tigers Win Marathon Game in Cooperstown

COOPERSTOWN, NY-The Connecticut Tigers (18-16) got an RBI single from SS Ryan Soares (4-6) to earn a 6-5 win over the Tri- City VallleyCats (13-21) in a 13-inning, New York-Penn League Hall of Fame Game at Doubleday Field in Cooperstown, NY on Saturday afternoon.
The Tigers scored a run in the first inning against ValleyCats starter David Martinez. 3B Josh Ashenbrenner (1-5) hit a triple and scored on a single by 2B Alexander Nunez (2-5) for a 1-0 lead.
In the second inning, C Julio Rodriguez (2-6) doubled and moved to third base on a groundout by 1B James Robbins (0-3). Soares hit an RBI single to score Rodriguez and make it 2-0.
In the third inning, LF Ryan Enos (2-5) led off with a single and stole second base. Ashenbrenenr flew out to left field to move Enos to third base. Nunez hit an RBI single to plate Enos and make it 3-0.
The ValleyCats scored three runs in the fourth inning against Connecticut RHP Patrick Cooper to tie the game at 4-4. 2B Kike Hernandez (1-6) singled and 1B Tyler Burnett (3-5) walked.
C Ben Heath (1-4) hit an RBI double to score Hernandez. 3B Michael Kvasnicka (2-6) followed with an RBI groundout to score Burnett and RF Adam Bailey (0-5) hit a sacrifice fly to score Heath and tie the game at 3-3.
Tri-City scored a run in the in the sixth inning to take a 4-3 lead but the Tigers responded with two runs in the seventh inning to take a 5-4 lead. Soares singled and went to third base on a single by Polk. Enos hit a two-run single to score both runners and give the Tigers a 5-4 lead.
In the ValleyCats ninth inning, CF Daniel Adamanson (1-5) and DH Nick Stanley (0-3) hit back-to-back doubles to tie the score at 5- 5.
The Tigers and ValleyCats remained tied until the 13th inning. Rodriguez singled and was lifted in favor of pinch-runner Les Smith (0- 0). 1B Matt Perry (0-0) laid down a sacrifice bunt to move Smith to second base. Soares hit a single to left field to bring home Smith and the win for the Tigers.
The Tigers travel to Lowell, MA to begin a two-game series with the Lowell Spinners on Sunday night at 5:05 p.m. LHP Rayni Guichardo (1-2, 5.32) gets the start for Connecticut against RHP Madison Younginer (2-5, 7.22) for Lowell.
