Miami FC Announces Hiring of Daryl Shore as New Head Coach

July 19, 2010 - U.S. Soccer Federation D-2 (USSF D-2) - Fort Lauderdale Strikers News Release

Miami, July 19, 2010- -- Miami FC announced today the hiring of Daryl Shore as the fourth head coach in franchise history. Shore takes over the managerial duties of the club as the Blues fight towards earning a playoff berth for the 2010 season.

"My family and I are excited to return to South Florida. I understand that Miami FC and South Florida are a tight-knit community, and we as South Florida's soccer team have one goal and that is to reach the play-offs. Once we get to the playoffs it's a new season," said newly appointed Head Coach Daryl Shore.

Shore joins the organization after spending 10 years as an assistant coach for the Chicago Fire of MLS. During his successful tenure in Chicago, Shore also took on a number of responsibilities with the Fire as the Director of Youth Development while also serving as an assistant coaching director of the Chicago Fire Juniors.

The Chicago Fire have been one of the more successful teams in MLS while Shore was on the sidelines this past decade, finishing as runner-ups for the MLS Cup in 2000 and 2003 while also winning the U.S. Open Cup in 2000, 2003 and 2006. The Fire also made it to the SuperLiga Final in 2009 and won the MLS Supporters' Shield in 2003 for the best regular season record.

Shore served as an assistant to five head coaches with Chicago, including Bob Bradley and Juan Carlos Osorio. He also played a critical role in the growth of the Fire's excellent player development program.

Prior to Chicago, Shore was a professional goalkeeper and also served as the head coach for the New Orleans Storm of the A-League in 1998 as well as the Lehigh Valley Steam in 1999.

Shore has coaching experience dating back to 1993, when he began as an assistant coach for Birmingham-Southern College, his alma matter, just after graduating from the school.

"Daryl is someone with a lot of experience at the highest level in North American Soccer. He has been an assistant with one of the most successful franchises in the MLS. We are confident that he can make a quick transition to take the club where it should be," said Director of Soccer Fernando Clavijo.

Shore will replace Victor Pastora, who has been a part of the Blues organization since the formation of the club in 2006, serving as an assistant coach during the team's inaugural season and helping Miami FC earn a playoff spot in its first season. Pastora remained as an assistant coach through the 2009 season and was promoted to the head coaching position for this 2010 season.

"Victor is someone who has been here since the first day. He help built this club and we would like to thank him for his effort and dedication. I know I speak for everyone at Miami FC and Traffic Sports by wishing him all the best," said Clavijo.
