Newark Bears News Release
The Newark Bears are proud to announce that Autism Awareness Day and the launch of UMDNJ's "Mom2Mom" program has been rescheduled for Saturday, July 10. The event was originally scheduled for April 25.
Mom 2 Mom program, developed by UMDNJ - University Behavioral HealthCare (UBHC) and the Autism Center of UMDNJ - New Jersey Medical School, is designed for mothers of children with developmental disabilities and special needs. The program, which will be piloted in Essex and Union counties, is a peer-based support system offered through telephone help lines and computer chat rooms to assist moms with their immediate needs and challenges.
UBHC has utilized this model successfully with other at-risk groups including police officers served by the COP 2 COP Program and military veterans served by the VET 2 VET program.
"We have recognized that there is a substantial burden experienced by mothers of children with developmental disabilities and special needs. Through this initiative, we will make a significant positive impact on the lives of mom caregivers in our target area and create a model for replication around the state and beyond," said B. Madeleine Goldfarb, the Autism Center's director of outreach and education.
"We are thankful to Newark Bears for their support in drawing attention to this important effort and their generosity," Goldfarb added.
The Bears will take on the Long Island Ducks in the Saturday night contest. Game time is set for 7:05 p.m., with the gates of Bears & Eagles Riverfront Stadium opening at 6:05 p.m. Immediately following the game, fans will be treated to a fireworks extravaganza, presented by July4Ever. Tickets for the game and all upcoming Bears games are available at the Bears & Eagles Riverfront Stadium box office, by calling (973) 848-1000 ext. 212, or by logging onto www.newarkbears.com, and clicking on the tickets icon on the top of the page.
