(LANCASTER, CA) - Inland Empire jumped out to a 6-1 lead and withstood a late Lancaster rally to claim a 7-6 victory over the JetHawks in the opener of a three-game series at Clear Channel Stadium Sunday. The loss extended Lancaster's season-long losing streak to 10 games.

With game scoreless in the top of the third, Inland Empire's Chris Gutierrez hit an RBI single that scored Johan Garcia and gave the 66ers a 1-0 edge.

The 66ers tacked on four runs on five straight hits off JetHawks starter Shane Wolf in the top of the fourth, which extended their lead to 5-0. Alfredo Silverio ripped a two-run triple into the left field corner and Steve Caseres followed with an RBI single to complete Inland Empire's offensive outburst.

The JetHawks began to chip away at the deficit with a run in the bottom of the fourth. Mark Ori delivered an RBI double that made it a 5-1 contest.

With Lancaster trailing 6-1 in the bottom of the fifth, 66ers reliever Robert Boothe issued consecutive walks to Jay Austin and Albert Cartwright. Freddy Parejo smacked a three-run home run, his first round-tripper of the season, over the left field wall, which made it a 6-4 ballgame.

Inland Empire added a crucial insurance run in the top of the seventh when Austin Gallagher hit an RBI single off Ashton Mowdy, which plated Kyle Russell.

The JetHawks refused to go away quietly. Austin socked a two-run home run over the left field wall in the bottom of the eighth. Austin's blast made it a 7-6 game and gave the JetHawks a chance to tie or win the game in the bottom of the ninth.

But Kyle Smit retired the JetHawks in order in the bottom of the ninth to preserve Inland Empire's victory.

66ers reliever Brandon Mann (2-0) earned the win. Wolf (3-3) was charged with the loss after allowing six earned runs on nine hits in four and 1/3 innings pitched. Smit picked up his second save for Inland Empire.

With the win, the 66ers improved to 19-32. The loss dropped Lancaster to 15-34.

The JetHawks will attempt to even the series when the two teams meet on Monday at Clear Channel Stadium. Right-hander Kyle Greenwalt (1-3, 4.57 ERA) gets the start for Lancaster. The 66ers are expected to counter with right-hander Nate Eovaldi (0-2, 3.62 ERA).
