Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs News Release

BOSSIER CITY, LA - The Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs of the Central Hockey League will once again be involved in this year's 27th annual Mudbug Madness Festival, which runs from Thursday through Sunday at Festival Plaza in downtown Shreveport. Head Coach Scott Muscutt will participate in a crawfish eating competition tomorrow and team mascot Clawed will appear in the festival's opening ceremonies.

At noon on Thursday, Muscutt will represent the Mudbugs in one of the first events at this year's festival: the Celebrity/VIP Crawfish Eating Contest. The competition will pit Coach Muscutt against ten other contestants, including Bossier-Shreveport BattleWings Head Coach Jon Norris, Billy the Exterminator and his brother Ricky from their hit A&E television show, and numerous local TV and radio personalities.

To be crowned the winner, Muscutt will try to be the first contestant to peel and eat five pounds worth of boiled crawfish. The ultra-competitive Mudbugs Head Coach, who has participated in the contest nearly every year he's been with the club, is looking to capture his first win after a series of disappointing finishes.

"I'm just now getting over the whole cannibalism part of this deal," Muscutt commented. "I'm a Mudbug myself, and here I am eating Mudbugs in a contest. That really threw me off my game at first. But now I'm primed and hungry (no pun intended) to make a run at the title this year."

In addition to Coach Muscutt's appearance in the celebrity eating contest, Mudbugs mascot Clawed will also participate in the festival's opening events. Clawed will help entertain the crowd of "Mudbuggers" in attendance tomorrow evening for the Mudbug Madness parade at Festival Plaza, which is part of the opening ceremonies.

Mudbug Madness 2010 starts tomorrow and runs from 11:00 am to 11:00 pm daily through Sunday.

"We're in our 27th year now and we're looking forward to a great lineup of entertainment and tons of good food," said Melanie Bacon, Executive Director for Downtown Shreveport Unlimited. "We are very excited about the weather forecast and thankful that the oil spill has not affected the crawfish crop. It's going to be a great weekend."
