Wildcats' Kelsey Tessier Named CHL Player Of The Week

Toronto, ON - The Canadian Hockey League today announced that forward Kelsey Tessier of the Moncton Wildcats is the CHL Player of the Week after the first week of playoff action ending March 21. Tessier led the Wildcats to two wins and led the QMJHL in scoring with seven points in two games including three goals and four assists with a plus-minus rating of plus-1.
Tessier and the Wildcats have jumped out to a 2-0 series lead against Atlantic Division opponents the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles. Tessier was named first star of both contests beginning with a hat-trick including the game-winner plus an assist in the 6-3 series opening win Friday night. The Wildcats took Game Two Saturday by a 6-0 score with Tessier contributing three assists including a set-up of the Marek Hrivik first period game-winner scored on the power play.
Tessier, a 20-year-old from Fredericton, NB, is playing in his fourth QMJHL season. He joined the Wildcats in January after spending three full seasons with the Quebec Remparts. Tessier is a Colorado Avalanche prospect selected in the fourth round of the 2008 NHL Entry Draft.
Bryan Cameron of the Barrie Colts and Craig Cunningham of the Vancouver Giants were also considered for the award. Cameron scored five goals and three assists for eight points in three wins highlighted by a five-point game Sunday as first star of a 6-2 win over the Sudbury Wolves. Cunningham scored four goals and three assists for seven points in two games highlighted by a two goal and three assist performance on Saturday as first star of a 6-3 win over the Kamloops Blazers.
