Erie, Pennsylvania, Thursday, March 18 -Erie Mayor Joe Sinnott has declared Saturday, March 20 "We Love Erie Day" and unveiled a special commemorative t-shirt that will be given away at Saturday night's Erie BayHawks home game. The announcement took place at a press event at City Hall today.

The Mayor encouraged local residents to attend Saturday night's BayHawks game to help celebrate all that we love about Erie and "put the city's best foot forward" for a national audience, as the game will be broadcast tape-delayed on the Versus Network at 11 p.m. ET Saturday night.

The Mayor also unveiled a unique BayHawks / Kanzius Cancer Research Foundation t-shirt that the first 1,000 fans at Saturday's game will receive. Half the shirts being handed out are purple and the other half yellow. Purple symbolizes pancreatic cancer and yellow represents liver cancer, two types of cancer the Kanzius device is targeting first.

Fans will have an opportunity to bid throughout the game on a limited number of team-autographed Kanzius shirts with all proceeds benefiting the Foundation.

"We are proud to be a partner with the City of Erie and the BayHawks for the 'We Love Erie Day' game Saturday," said Mark Neidig, Executive Director of the Kanzius Cancer Research Foundation. "It is so appropriate because the Foundation truly does love Erie and the people here have been a role model for communities all over the country to step up and spread the wave of hope. We trust each time fans wear these purple or yellow shirts it will serve as a symbol of hope for future pancreatic and liver cancer patients, and show that we believe there is a better way to treat cancer," Neidig said.

Other "We Love Erie Day" festivities include: entertainment by the Toronto Raptors Dance Pak and "Raptor" the mascot, the Erie Clowns will provide face painting and balloon animals for kids, and Celebrity Sports Artist Kevin-John will create a unique sketch of Erie guard Jackie Manuel during the game.

The Mayor also took time to recognize the accomplishments of the BayHawks organization on the two-year anniversary of the team's launch from when Erie was first awarded an NBA Development League franchise on March 18, 2008.

The BayHawks play a two-game series Friday and Saturday night against the Dakota Wizards with game time each night set for 7 p.m. and doors opening at 6 p.m. The team is currently riding a five-game win streak and remains in playoff contention with just seven games left in the regular season.
