Sioux Falls Stampede News Release

Former Stampede captain and defenseman Nate Prosser has signed an NHL contract with the Minnesota Wild. He becomes the 12th former Stampede player to sign with an NHL club and the second in as many days. Former teammate Ben Holmstrom signed with the Philadelphia Flyers yesterday.

The Elk River, MN native has signed an entry-level contract with Minnesota. He will travel to Nashville tonight for the Wild's game against the Predators and is expected to stay with the team until the end of the regular season.

"The possibility of playing in front of my family and friends is exciting," Prosser told the Colorado Springs Gazette. "I just want to thank the Lord for the opportunity and the doors he opened."

Prosser played with the Stampede from 2003 to 2006 and served as team captain during the 2005-06 season while helping lead the Herd to their first ever Anderson Cup championship and Clark Cup Finals appearance. Prosser had his best season in 2005-06, posting 30 points (3g, 27a) in 58 games. He was also a plus-24 that season, tops amongst USHL defenseman, and named to the ALL-USHL Second Team.

Prosser spent the last four years at Colorado College where he recorded 64 points (12g, 52a) in 137 career games. He was an assistant captain this season for the Tigers who were ousted from the WCHA playoffs last weekend, falling to the University of Minnesota-Duluth in three games. He finished the year as the WCHA's second leading scoring defenseman with four goals and 24 assists. He was recently named to the All-WCHA Academic Team.

Prosser, who will wear #39, signed the contract at the Wild offices Thursday morning before catching a flight to join his new team in Nashville. He will watch the game tonight and then join the team on the ice for tomorrow's morning skate in Columbus.
