Petes' Austin Watson Named CHL Player Of The Week
March 10, 2010 - Ontario Hockey League (OHL) News Release
Toronto, ON - The Canadian Hockey League today announced that forward Austin Watson of the Peterborough Petes is the CHL Player of the Week for the week ending March 7. In three games Watson recorded nine points including five goals and four assists with a plus-minus rating of plus-4.
Watson tallied three straight multi-point games for the first time in his career beginning Thursday night with a goal and an assist despite a 6-4 loss to the Ottawa 67's. He then led the Petes to two straight victories and was twice awarded first star of the game honours. He scored two power play goals and added an assist Saturday in a 5-1 win over the Mississauga St. Michael's Majors, and then netted two goals and two assists Sunday in a huge 6-2 win over division rivals the Oshawa Generals lifting the Petes into sole possession of sixth place in the Eastern Conference standings with 58 points and just three games remaining.
Watson, an 18-year-old from Ann Arbor, Michigan, is playing in his second OHL season and is eligible for the 2010 NHL Entry Draft. Since joining the Petes from the Windsor Spitfires in January, Watson has 12 points in eight games and competed for Team Cherry at the 2010 Home Hardware CHL/NHL Top Prospects Game.
Jonathan Lessard of the QMJHL's Acadie-Bathurst Titan was also considered after scoring two goals and three assists for five points with a plus-minus rating of plus-6 in two games. From the WHL, Canadian National Junior Team forward Brandon McMillan of the Kelowna Rockets scored two goals and five assists for seven points in three games with a plus-minus rating of plus-3.
