IHL Announces Weekly Honors For Week Seventeen

ROCHESTER, MI--- The International Hockey League (IHL) announced Monday that Bloomington left wing Craig Macdonald has been named the IHL Player of the Week, Flint center John Mori has been named the IHL Rookie of the Week and Quad City goaltender Kyle Jones has been named the IHL Goaltender of the Week for the period ending Sunday, February 7th, 2010.

Macdonald finished the week posting seven points in three games played. He scored four goals and added three helpers to his season totals. He registered points in two of the three games played with both games being multi-point contests. Macdonald was one of two members of the PrairieThunder to record their first hat tricks this season Wednesday. He and teammate Matt Spiller notched in three goals each in the 7-5 win over Flint. The 27-year-old Milton, Ontario native is currently tied for third in the IHL in scoring with 55 points (26 goals, 29 assists) in 45 games played.

Other players nominated for the IHL Player of the Week include: Dayton forward Mike Olynyk, Flint center Nathan Ward, Fort Wayne left wing Konstantin Shafranov, Muskegon right wing Robin Bouchard, Port Huron defenseman Daniel Tetrault and Quad City right wing Chris Lipsett.

After being held scoreless last week, Mori wrapped up Week 17 of his rookie season scoring two goals and two assists and a plus-four rating in three games played. He notched in back-to-back shorthanded goals, one in Wednesday's 7-5 loss to Bloomington and one in the 2-1 win over Dayton. The shorthanded tallies bring his season total to four, which leads all rookies and the IHL. The 23- year-old Westport, Connecticut native is fourth among rookies in scoring with 30 points (15 goals, 15 assists) in 43 games played.

Other players nominated for the IHL Rookie of the Week include: Bloomington center Matt McIlvane, Dayton forward Jonathan Ornelas, Fort Wayne defenseman Frankie DeAngelis, Muskegon right wing Matt Robertson, Port Huron left wing Mickael Bedard and Quad City center Justin White.

Jones earns his first weekly honor this season after recording a win in his only start this week. He made 38 saves in Quad City's 3-1 win over the third place Komets. The 38 saves marked a personal high in saves in one game for the rookie netminder. The game was also his first appearance since January 24th . He finished the week with a 1.00 goals against average and a.974 save percentage.

After 23 games played this season, Jones has a 3.40 goals against average and a.890 save percentage. The 26-year-old North Delta, British Columbia native leads IHL goaltenders in shootout wins (5) and is tied for first in shootout save percentage (.750).

Other goaltenders nominated for the IHL Goaltender of the Week include: Bloomington's Sebastian Dahm, Dayton's Derek MacIntyre, Flint's Rob Nolan, Fort Wayne's Nick Boucher, Muskegon's Sebastien Centomo and Port Huron's Adam Russo.
