Velemirovich Scores Four As Surge Cage Bears

BILOXI, MS -- Tim Velemirovich potted four goals, tying an SPHL season high, as the Mississippi Surge defeated the Knoxville Ice Bears 6-2 to win their 11th consecutive home game at the Mississippi Coast Coliseum on Friday night.
Tim Velemirovich gave the Surge a 1-0 lead when he fired a one-timer past Knoxville goalie Chad Collins at the 11:24 mark of the first.
Carrying a four-on-three advantage into the start of the second period, Velemirovich extended the Surge's lead to 2-0 just 49 seconds into the second frame, when he hammered another one-timer past Collins for his second of the night. Knoxville answered back with goals at 2:06 from Travis Martell and at 2:44 from Travis Hanson, but Mississippi regained the lead when Chris Greene redirected a shot from the point by Steve Weidlich past Collins at 8:49. Velemirovich completed his hat trick and gave the Surge a 4-2 lead at the 13:01 mark of the second when he was the last Surge player to touch the puck before Knoxville's Mark Van Vliet played it into his own teams' net during a goalmouth schmozzle.
Just 25 seconds into the third period, Matt Zultek redirected Weidlich's shot into the net for his 24th power-play goal of the season and a 5-2 Surge lead. Velemirovich capped the scoring when he hammered home Matthew Larke's centering pass at the 16:00 mark of the third for his fourth goal of the evening and 21st of the year.
Bill Zaniboni made 25 saves for the Surge, and Mississippi went 2-for-12 on the power play.
