Joliet JackHammers News Release
JOLIET, IL - The Joliet JackHammers have signed pitcher Bear Bay for the 2010 season. Bay is no stranger to the Northern League, spending the 2008 and 2009 seasons with the Winnipeg Goldeyes. The Orange Crush home opener is scheduled for May 28th versus the Lake County Fielders, a 2010 Northern League expansion team.
"Bear is a proven winner that can give us a quality start every five days," said JackHammers Field Manager Chad Parker. "He is a true professional in every sense of the word and provides tremendous stability to our rotation."
Bay, a 26-year-old right handed pitcher, was the 25th round draft pick in 2002 for the Chicago Cubs. He played two seasons in the Cubs organization before being traded to the Cleveland Indians. There he advanced as high as "AAA." Bay went on to spend the 2007 season with the Texas Rangers high "A" affiliate, the Bakersville Blaze of the California League. He spent the past two seasons with the Winnipeg Goldeyes and in 2009, he went 8-3 with a 3.54 ERA.
LOOSE GRAVEL: The Joliet JackHammers 2010 Home Opener will be Friday, May 28th at 7:10pm against the Lake County Fielders, one of two Northern League expansion teams.
