Winterhawks' Ian Curtis Named CHL Goaltender Of The Week

Toronto, ON - The Canadian Hockey League today announced that for the second time this season Ian Curtis of the Portland Winterhawks is the CHL Goaltender of the Week for the week ending January 24. Curtis, who previously won this award for the week ending December 13, won two games this past week posting a goals-against-average of 1.00 with a save percentage of.976.

Curtis began his week Saturday night on the road in Seattle against the Thunderbirds where he made 29 saves in the 6-1 win. Curtis would then produce one of his best games of the season on Sunday stopping a career-high 51 shots including 19 in the third period to preserve a 3-1 win over the Vancouver Giants where he was named first star of the game.

Curtis, a 19-year-old from Abbotsford, BC, is playing in his third WHL season and has helped the Winterhawks to a current fourth place ranking in the WHL's Western Conference with 62 points.

Also considered this week was Francois Lacerte of the QMJHL's Acadie-Bathurst Titan who won two games while posting a goals-against-average of 1.51 with a save percentage of.940. Mike Morrison of the OHL's Kitchener Rangers earned two wins in his first two appearances of the season posting a goals-against-average of 1.07 and a save percentage of.973.
