Reno Bighorns News Release
RENO, Nev.-Reno led by as many as 24 points in the first-half Sunday afternoon, but the Idaho Stampede used a dominant second-half effort to slip past the Bighorns, 109-108, in the Reno Events Center.
The Bighorns (5-8) outscored Idaho (8-5) by 23 points in the second quarter, thanks in part to a 12-point, 6-rebound performance by Doug Thomas in the period. But the Stampede would strike back in the second half.
Reno trailed by a point with less than 30 seconds remaining when Desmon Farmer drove to the lane, was fouled and scored, putting the Bighorns up by a point in the waning seconds. Farmer missed the ensuing free throw, though, setting the stage for a Patty Mills put-back that pushed the Stampede back in front by a point.
Reno's Mo Charlo got a clean look at the goal as the final horn sounded, but his jumper rimmed out, giving Idaho the win and the weekend sweep.
Farmer led all scorers with 27 points, while Russell Robinson kicked-in 26 points and 10 rebounds for the Bighorns.
Idaho was paced by 25 points from Sundiata Gaines. Mills added 22 points, while Anthony Tolliver recorded 16 points and 16 rebounds in the winning effort.
Reno, Idaho and the rest of the league will now converge on Boise for the 2010 NBA Development League Showcase. The three-day affair begins on Monday. Reno is set to take on Dakota at 3:30 p.m. PST from Qwest Arena. The action can be seen live on NBA Futurecast by visiting www.RenoBighorns.com.
After four-straight on the road, the Bighorns will return home on Jan. 12 to tangle with the Utah Flash. Tip-time is set for 7 p.m. in the Reno Events Center. Tickets are on-sale now at www.RenoBighorns.com, the Reno Events Center Box Office, Silver Legacy Box Office, or by visiting any Northern Nevada Ticketmaster location or Web site.
