Mayhem Not Playing In Marion In 2010

December 24, 2009 - Continental Indoor Football League (CIFL)
Marion Mayhem News Release

A press release was just released by the Marion Mayhem owners as of December 24. The owners have announced that due to its current economic condition a team will not take the field in 2010. Owners Michael Burtch and Stanley Jackson stated that "the Mayhem's 2009 season had very disappointing attendance causing unmet projected revenues. Although there were numerous attempts to obtain additional income and investors, none seemed willing to take on such a risky investment in these tough and uncertain times. Even next year's projected sales will not generate enough revenue to keep the team afloat. We expect to return as soon as the economic condition of the Marion community improves."

Mr. Burtch stated that "after conversing with local business owners and sponsors, it is apparent that financial backing will indeed decline. A decrease in sales will make it financially impossible to field a team, especially since expenses were not being met with the team's current sponsors. I wish this were not the case, but I look forward to better days and to the return of the indoor football league in Marion.

Mr. Jackson said, "I feel bad not only for the city of Marion but for all of the fans who have been so faithful. Both Mike and I fought to keep the Mayhem around for the community, but unfortunately it was just not meant to be. Thank you for your support, and we will try to return when the time is right."

At this time all of the Mayhem staff will be transferring to a Columbus team called the Columbus Aces. The tryout that is scheduled for January 9 will still be taking place. This tryout is open to all positions at this time except for kickers. All tryout information that is stated on this site is still accurate, but will be to field the New Columbus Aces team. For information please call Jill Chitwood at 740-262-6891. We will also be having another tryout for the dance/cheer team for the Columbus Aces. More information will be annoucned as it comes in. Our hopes are to have the dance team tryouts around the middle of January in the Columbus area.

We hope to see the Mayhem fans follow the new team in Columbus as they have the Marion team. Thank you for your support.
