
Stampede Head into Winter Break on Winning Note

The Stampede (14-4-7) went into the winter break on a winning note, defeating Lincoln 3-0 Saturday night at the Arena. Clay Witt stopped all 27 shots faced for his third shutout of the season. Matt Bailey, Matt Farris and Mike Voran all scored in the win for the Herd who sit in second place in the West Division.
Stampede players have headed home for the holidays as the USHL winter break begins today. Players will return to Sioux Falls next Monday in preparation for a New Year's Eve tilt in Kearney, NE against the Tri-City Storm. Game time is 8:05 PM (Central).
The Herd return home for a special New Year's Night game against Team USA U-18 at 7:05 PM. It marks Team USA's first trip to Sioux Falls this season. The Herd will then host Fargo on Sunday, January 3rd at 6:05 PM.
SPEND NEW YEAR'S NIGHT WITH THE HERD!
The Stampede return home to the Sioux Falls Arena on Friday, January 1st to host Team USA at 7:05 PM. It marks the first time franchise history the Herd will play a scheduled New Years Night game!
Stay in your seats during the intermissions as Sumo Hockey returns to the arena! After a successful debut on Thanksgiving night, four lucky fans will compete in a 2-on-2 Sumo Hockey Game! Contestants will wear giant padded Sumo suites and compete to determine who is sumo hockey champion!
STAMPEDE FAMILY NIGHT JAN. 3
The first of four Stampede Family Night's takes place on Sunday, January 3rd at 6:05 PM when the Herd entertain Fargo at the Sioux Falls Arena.

STAMPEDE FIRST HALF DID YOU KNOW???
* At the winter break, the Stampede are 14-4-7 with 35 points and off to their best start since the 2005-06 season when the Herd captured the Anderson Cup title. Sioux Falls was an amazing 24-3-0 at the winter break in 2005-06.
* At 11-1-5, the Stampede have the second best home record in the USHL.
* The Herd are 9-2-4 versus the West Division.
* The Stampede rank second in the USHL in goals scored per-game, averaging 4.00 goals.
* The Herd rank third in the league in goals-against in regulation, allowing 2.72 goals per-game.
* Sioux Falls is 11-0-4 when leading after two periods this season.
* The Stampede scored a league high six powerplay goals in a 9-1 blasting of Waterloo on October 16th.
* The Stampede have scored five or more goals in 7 of their 14 wins this season.
* Mike Voran leads the team in scoring with 32 points (14g, 18a) in 25 games. His 32 points rank fifth overall in the USHL.
* Voran has tallied a point in 20 of his 25 games this season.
* Clay Witt is 4-1-1 with a 2.68 GAA and a.915 save percentage in his last seven appearances. He is 9-2-3 with a 2.35 GAA and a.913 save percentage on the season and tied for the league lead with three shutouts.
* Stampede defenseman Dan Furlong is arguably one of the Stampede's most improved players from a year ago. Furlong has 11 points (7g, 4a) in just 21 games. His seven goals rank fourth amongst USHL defenseman. Last season, Furlong posted seven assists in 41 games.
* Fellow defenseman Zack Kamrass is a team best plus-13 on the season.
VANEK QUESTIONABLE TONIGHT VS LEAFS
It's Monday and that means once again the Buffalo Sabres will be featured on Versus-TV (Midcontinent channel 71). Tonight, the Sabres travel to Toronto to face the Maple Leafs at 6 PM (Central). For the second straight game, the Sabres may be without the services of former Herd star Thomas Vanek.
Vanek missed Saturday's game against Montreal with an abdominal injury and has been playing the last handful of games with the nagging injury. Vanek is questionable heading into tonight's contest. Vanek has 21 points (10g, 11a) in 31 games for the Sabres who lead the Northeast Division with a 21-10-3 record.
