Mallards Sign Goaltender Kaufmann

Moline, Ill. (December 8, 2009) - The Quad City Mallards, proud International Hockey League (IHL) affiliate of the Philadelphia Flyers, today announced that the team has signed goaltender Jerad Kaufmann. Per team policy, no contract terms were released.

Kaufmann, a 25-year old rookie, completed a four year collegiate career at Nebraska-Omaha last spring. The Roseville, Minnesota, native went 9-10-3 with a 2.31 goals against average and a.915 save percentage and one shutout in 22 games with UNO last season. Kaufmann made his professional debut on April 4 with the ECHL's Bakersfield Condors, stopping 32 shots in a 3-2 shootout loss to the Ontario Reign.

Over the course of his Maverick career, the 6' 3", 190-pound Kaufmann went 45-38-14 with a 2.84 goals against average, a.898 save percentage and four shutouts. In 2005-06 Kaufmann helped UNO to the first NCAA tournament berth in the school's history.

The Mallards waived goaltender D.J. Delbuono to open up a roster spot for Kaufmann. Delbuono made his first Mallards appearance last Saturday night in Muskegon, stopping both shots he faced in seven minutes of action in the third period of a loss to the Lumberjacks.

The Mallards are next in action on home ice this Friday night at 7:00 p.m. against the Dayton Gems. The first 1,000 fans through the doors for that game will receive free Mallards stadium scarves. The Mallards will travel to Bloomington to meet the PrairieThunder Saturday night before returning home to take on the Flint Generals Sunday afternoon at 4:00. Just in time for Christmas, the Mallards will team up with the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots program for a Teddy Bear Toss Sunday- fans attending Sunday's game are encouraged to bring a new, unwrapped stuffed animal to the game and toss it onto the ice after the Mallards score their first goal of the contest. Teddy bears will be donated to needy children in the Quad Cities. In addition, $1.50 hot dogs will be available at i wireless Center concession stands during Sunday's game. Sunday is also a Family Skate Night- fans are encouraged to bring their skates and join the Mallards on the ice after the game.
