
Mallards Fall In Muskegon

Muskegon, Mich. (December 5, 2009) - Six different Muskegon Lumberjacks scored and the host Lumberjacks pulled away from the Quad City Mallards, proud International Hockey League affiliate of the Philadelphia Flyers, in the third period on the way to a 6-2 win over the Mallards Saturday night.
The loss snapped the Mallards' three game winning streak and five game regulation unbeaten streak.
After a scoreless first period the Lumberjacks grabbed control of the game by scoring twice in 60 seconds early in the second period. Todd Robinson scored the game's opening goal from the slot at 2:29 at of the second period. On the next shift Todd Robinson walked in alone to double the Muskegon lead.
Ian McPhee's blue line blast stretched the gap to 3-0 at 12:34 of the second.
The Mallards would pull back within one early in the third period by scoring two quick goals of their own. Quad City was on the power play when Justin White buried Ryan Fultz's goalmouth feed at 3:10 of the third. One minute and 17 seconds later Patrick Levesque's breakaway goal cut the deficit to 3-2, but less than half a minute after Levesque fired the puck in under the crossbar Muskegon's Billy Collins dealt Quad City a blow from which the Mallards would not recover by driving the puck home from the right wing circle.
At 8:29 of the third Mark Cody scored from close range to reestablish the three goal Muskegon lead at 5-2.
In an attempt to spark another comeback bid, the Mallards pulled goaltender Kyle Jones with better than seven minutes remaining, but the Lumberjacks' J.T. Dahlinger capped of the Muskegon win with an empty net goal at the 13-minute mark.
The Mallards are next in action on home ice on Friday, December 11 at 7:05 p.m. against the Dayton Gems. The first 1,000 fans through the doors for that game will receive free Mallards stadium scarves.
