Dayton Gems Defeat League Leaders Muskegon Lumberjack 4-2

Dayton Gems News Release


Tonight the Dayton Gems defeated the League Leading Muskegon Lumberjacks at L. C. Walker Arena during an exciting evening on the ice. The Gems ended Muskegon's 10 game undefeated streak. In the 1st the Lumberjack DiPace brought the one goal of the period. Dayton ruled the 2nd with goals from John Snowden (assisted by Jon Ornelas & Phil Youngclaus) 2 minutes later by Mike Vaskivuo assist again by Jon Ornelas & Phil Youngclaus. Then less than 5 minutes later Dayton brought up the total this time by Joe VanCulin with the aid of John Snowden & Jon Ornelas. During the 3rd period Muskegon answered at the 8 minute mark when Adam Welsh found the net. With the period was almost half over Lumberjack defenseman Matt Krug collided with Gem Mike Mullen. Mullen had to be taken from the ice by medics after being motionless on the ice for several minutes. With only seconds left Corey Couturier scored an empty net goal on a Gems power play. The Gems have now scored points in the standings in each game against Muskegon. Gems record is now 7/8/3/0.

Next Saturday, December 5th at Brookville's Westbrook Elementary Santa will have a new helper this year. The annual Breakfast with Santa will find our mascot, Blade, enjoying breakfast and helping Santa pass out the gifts. Canned goods will be collected and donated to the Brookville F.I.S.H. food pantry

That evening at 7:30pm as the Gems attempt to slay the Ft Wayne Komets join us we salute Gem Moe Benoit. Moe's number will be retired. Fans of the original Gems are invited to join us and pay tribute to his career. That evening is also "Kill the Komets" night and fans 12 and under will receive complimentary official Gems pom poms to cheer the team on.

Sunday, December 6th at 5pm the Gems take on The Port Huron Ice Hawks and it'll be time for the Teddy Bear toss. When the Gems score their 1st goal it's time to toss your Teddy. Cutest Bear Contest - Top 5 cutest Teddy Bears will receive prizes so be sure and pin you name to your Bear. Bring along a Teddy and we'll donate him to a good girl or boy throughToys for Tots and The Ronald McDonald House.
