PRESCOTT VALLEY, Ariz. - The Arizona Sundogs, in preparation for the upcoming 2009-10 Central Hockey League season, announced today they have agreed to terms with veteran forward Steve Potvin.

Potvin is a veteran of 478 American Hockey League (AHL) and top European league contests, most recently skating for the Herning Blue Fox in the top league in Denmark. During the 2007-08 season the Montreal, Quebec, native helped Herning to the league championship recording 40 points (18g/22a) in 41 games.

"Steve has played in some of the top leagues in both North America and Europe and is an experienced and well-rounded player as a result," said Sundogs Head Coach and General Manager Marco Pietroniro. "His ability to produce offensively in the top leagues in Europe will certainly translate well here with our team. We're expecting his style of play and character to provide leadership both on and off the ice."

In his ten seasons in Europe Potvin appeared in 354 games accumulating 133 goals, 184 assists and 800 penalty minutes (PIM).

Prior to skating overseas, the 5-foot-11, 190-pound forward split time over five seasons between the AHL and ECHL. In 158 AHL appearances with the Baltimore Bandits, Portland Pirates, Albany River Rats and Hamilton Bulldogs, Potvin tallied 31 goals, 44 assists and 197 PIM. The 34-year-old averaged a point-per-game during his two seasons with the ECHL's Raleigh Icecaps, netting 112 points (42g/70a) in 111 contests.

The 15-year-pro also played one season of professional inline hockey in 1996 with the New Jersey Rockin' Rollers of the former Roller Hockey International (RHI), recording 10 goals, 23 assists and 50 PIM in 26 games.

Before turning pro, Potvin played four seasons of junior hockey in the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) and had his best amateur season while with the Niagara Falls Thunder in 1994-95, picking up 89 points (32g/57a) in just 60 games.

The Sundogs are set to open the 2009-10 regular season at home at Tim's Toyota Center on Friday, Oct. 16 and Saturday, Oct. 17 against the expansion Allen Americans. Both games are slated for 7:05pm (Arizona time) starts. Season tickets are available for as low as $350. Ask about the ‘No-Risk Protection Plan'.
