Green Bay Blizzard News Release
Green Bay Blizzard special teams coordinator, Mike Muehling, has officially been added to the Syracuse Orange football staff. Coach Muehling was in his first season with the Blizzard but will be forced to miss the final couple games of the season due to the Syracuse football program beginning preparation for their upcoming season which starting in just a couple weeks.
Coach Muehling has the support and respect of arenafootball2 (af2) President Jerry Kurz on his decision to join the Syracuse staff, "This is a tremendous opportunity for Mike and we are pleased to have had him as a coach in the af2 and with the Blizzard. After first meeting Mike while he was coaching at Indiana and now seeing him be able to return to a major college program, like Syracuse, is a tremendous recognition of his coaching ability."
Blizzard Head Coach Bob Landsee also expresses his support for Coach Muehling's opportunity after working with him all season. "Having Mike on our staff was a beneficial relationship for everyone involved. I have watched him grow both on a personal and professional level while he's been here and he's been a great asset to our program. Although we are sad he's leaving us, we are happy about Coach Muehling's opportunity at Syracuse and because I know the type of man he is, I know he will be successful anywhere he goes."
When asked about missing out on the Blizzard's upcoming playoff surge Muehling said, "It is sad to be leaving the Blizzard at this point in the season, because I have grown so close with the team and the staff but I am excited for my future opportunities to work with Coach Doug Marrone and the rest of his staff at Syracuse." He went on to explain how his experiences at Indiana University as a defensive Graduate Assistant and his time with the Blizzard are going to be beneficial experiences that will be useful in his pursuit of success at Syracuse.
Muehling's familiarity with the Big Ten Conference while working at Indiana will prove to be useful right from the start with the first three games being scheduled against Minnesota, Penn State and Northwestern which are all Big Ten opponents that play against Indiana. Syracuse's first game will be on September 5th against the Minnesota Gophers and will be broadcast on ESPN2.
Coach Landsee appreciates Coach Muehling's input of effort and time both on and off the field and congratulates him on this opportunity to advance his coaching career.
