Mishavonna Henson to Kick Off Independence Day Celebration

(LANCASTER, CA) - As part of its Independence Day Extravaganza Friday, July 3rd, the Lancaster JetHawks will welcome American Idol qualifier Mishavonna Henson to perform in a pregame concert with classic rock band Riff Raff. The concert will begin when the gates open at 5 PM. Henson will also perform God Bless America in the 7th inning.

Henson, who hails from Irvine, California, tried out for American Idol Season Eight at the open audition in Phoenix, AZ. Her performance earned praise from the judges, who included her in the top 36 and invited her to the Hollywood round. Her last song on the show was a rendition of Train's "Drops of Jupiter."

This rising entertainer has appeared on The Cliff & Company Morning Show KSON-FM 97.3 & 92.1 in San Diego, CA, and the nationally syndicated "The Back Porch Show", hosted by Mitchell Keller. She has also appeared on television as part of Nickelodeon's teen sensation "Unfabulous" and was guest star on NBC's comedy "Frasier."

Henson was vocally trained as a singer from the age of eight and first started performing professionally when she was 13. She has been acting professionally since she was six after being trained by top acting coaches in Los Angeles and was able to play the characters Rhoda in the "Bad Seed" and Maria in "West Side Story" with a Theatre Company in Los Angeles, and Margot Frank in "The Diary of Ann Frank" at the La Mirada Theatre. In August of 2008, she received the "Certificate of Merit Award" for her vocal solo at the Assemblies of God "National Fine Arts Festival" in North Carolina.

The JetHawks are in the midst of a three-game homestand against the Lake Elsinore Storm.
