
Diamond Jaxx Split Double-Header with Stars on Sunday

JACKSON, TENN. (JUNE 7, 2009) - The West Tenn Diamond Jaxx (23-33) split a double-header with the first place Huntsville Stars (33-23) on Sunday afternoon at Pringles Park. The Jaxx a 4-for-4 day with two triples and four RBI's at the plate by Johan Limonta in game one to win 9-6 and fell in game two to the Stars 5-1 in 10 innings. The Stars now lead the series three games to one. The Jaxx are now 1-3-3 in double-headers this season.
Game One:
The Stars picked up the first run of game one on a sacrifice fly by Jonathan Lucroy. Adam Stern opened the game with a double down the right field line. Shane Justis pushed Stern to third on a sacrifice bunt before scoring on the fly ball by Lucroy.
In the third the Jaxx grabbed a run to tie things up on a sacrifice fly scoring Mel Stocker from third. In the fourth the Jaxx picked up a triple from Johan Limonta and scored on a Yamid Haad SAC fly. The Jaxx took a 2-1 lead after four innings.
Huntsville took back the lead in the top of the fifth as Jonathan Lucroy lined a two-run homer down the left field line giving Huntsville a 3-2 advantage.
The Jaxx big inning was the bottom of the fifth inning. West Tenn batted around and plated six runs in the frame. Johan Limonta picked up his second triple of the game clearing the bases and giving the Jaxx a 5-1 lead. Brent Johnson, Marshall Hubbard and Oswaldo Navarro all came around on the three run triple by Limonta. The 18 year-old Nick Bucci came on to relieve starter Mike Jones and gave up homeruns from Yamid Haad (3) and Leury Bonilla (1). The Jaxx led 8-3.
Johan Limonta picked up his fourth RBI on the game in the sixth by bringing in Marshall Hubbard on a single to left. In the sixth inning, Huntsville pitcher Nick Bucci was ejected after hitting Brent Johnson and also Jaxx catcher Yamid Haad was ejected.
Kyle Parker (3-2) trotted out for his seventh inning of work and picked up two outs. With two outs and a runner aboard Park hit Logan Schafer and was ejected a third of a inning shy of back-to-back complete games. Parker went 6.2 innings and allowed five runs on nine hits. He struck out three and walked three. Manager Phil Plantier was also ejected. Ricky Orta came on to relieve Kyle Parker and immediately gave up a three-run homer to Taylor Green cutting the lead to 9-6, but that was the final. Mike Jones (1-1) picked up the loss for the Stars.
Game Two:
In game two the Diamond Jaxx got off to a great start manufacturing a run. As Mel Stocker was at third, Marshall Hubbard hit a sacrifice fly to put the Jaxx on top 1-0. Stocker stole second and advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt by Oswaldo Navarro. Stocker led the inning off with a single and finished the game 3-for-5.
Luis Munoz put up zeros until the sixth inning when leadoff-man Adam Stern took Munoz deep for his first homer of the season. Munoz dealt six innings for the Jaxx and gave up only the one run on five hits. Huntsville starter, Mike McClendon went seven innings, allowing just the one run on six hits while striking out six Jaxx hitters.
The game was turned over to the bullpen in extra innings and in the top of the tenth with two aboard, Vinny Rottino took Aaron Cotter deep and giving the Stars a 4-1 lead. Taylor Green followed with his second dinger of the day and a 5-1 lead.
Robert Hinton pitched a scoreless ninth and the Jaxx split the double dip. Left-handed reliever, Derrick Ellison (2-2) racked up the win for Huntsville. Aaron Cotter (0-1) took the loss for the Jaxx.
LHP Danny Christensen (0-3, 4.79) toes the rubber on Monday night at 7:05 for the Jaxx. He will be opposed by fellow southpaw LHP Bobby Bramhall (1-3, 7.12). Huntsville leads the series three games to win and the season series 11 games to two.
