Stamps sign two linebackers

May 5, 2009 - Canadian Football League (CFL)
Calgary Stampeders News Release

Calgary Stampeders head coach/general manager John Hufnagel is pleased to announce the signing of import linebackers Tray Blackmon and Kurt Campbell.

"We saw these linebackers at the free-agent camp in Florida and they both jumped out for different reasons," said Hufnagel. "Blackmon is a typical inside-the-box middle linebacker who has great football instincts and plays with a nasty streak. Campbell is a very athletic outside linebacker who tested well, plays hard and shows a lot of versatility. They'll definitely be in the thick of the competition at camp."

Blackmon spent the past three seasons with the Auburn University Tigers and recorded 84 tackles. The six-foot, 200-pounder was named a Southeastern Conference defensive player of the week in 2007 and was named to the Sporting News SEC All-Freshman Team as well as the publication's Freshman All-American Second Team in 2006.

Campbell was originally drafted in the seventh round (245th overall) of the 2005 National Football League draft by the Green Bay Packers. The six-foot-two, 232-pound University of Albany product has also spent time with the Oakland Raiders and Tennessee Titans.
