Jonas Pierre And Al Stewart Named Co-Defensive Players Of The Year
April 17, 2009 - Premier Basketball League (PBL) News Release
Chicago, IL... Jonas Pierre, a 6-10 center from the Quebec Kebs and Al Stewart, a 5-10 guard from the Manchester Millrats were named the Premier Basketball League Co-Defensive Player of the Year for the 2008-09 season. Both players were selected by a vote of the PBL head coaches.
Pierre, a 6-10 center from Lincoln (MO) was a force in the paint for the Kebs. Pierre led the PBL in blocks, 3.0 a game, and was sixth in rebounding, 8.6 a game. What makes these numbers even more impressive is they were accumulated in only 22 minutes a game. Pierre did his best work against the Manchester Millrats this season. He pulled down 21 rebounds on January 25 and blocked an amazing 11 shots on January 4.
Stewart, a 5-10 guard from Drake is considered one of the fastest players in the PBL. One of his many jobs was to lock up the opponents point guard every night, and Stewart did just that. Point guards playing against Stewart averaged 6 points less a game. Stewart was also second in steals in the PBL, averaging 2.8 a game for the Millrats.
"Both Jonas and Al had impressive seasons this year for their teams," said PBL President Tom Doyle. ""Both players made defense their forte and they are being recognized for their talents. Congratulations to both for their efforts."
