Philadelphia Wings second year forward Merrick Thomson has been named the National Lacrosse League Offensive Player of the Week after scoring three goals and assisting on five others in the Wings 16-14 victory over the Toronto Rock this past Saturday. Thomson's performance helped the Wings stay in Playoff contention, as the Wings play a must win game for a playoff berth against the Rochester Knighthawks this Saturday, April 18.

Thomson was the offensive spark plug for the team throughout Saturday's game. He started the scoring only 40 seconds into play, his second goal ended a five goal Toronto run, and his third goal came on a critical third quarter powerplay. Thomson's final assist was his most important point on the night as he helped setup teammate Drew Westervelt for the game winning tally with only one minute remaining.

"It is a great honor to receive," said Thomson. "I am focused on our game versus Rochester and I hope to contribute to another complete team effort versus the Knighthawks this week."

Thomson, who was named to the All-Rookie Team in 2008, was the Wings first round draft choice out of the University at Albany in 2008. He is currently tied for third in the NLL in goal scoring with 39 and leads Philadelphia in total points with 67.

Philadelphia will need Thomson to step up once again this Saturday night when the Wings play their final regular season game at Rochester with a playoff berth going to the winner. Game time this Saturday versus the Knighthawks is 7:35 p.m. and it will be broadcast live on the NLL Network at www.WingsLAX.com and NLL.com.
