
NISL Announces 08-09 All-Rookie Team

The National Indoor Soccer League (NISL) announced today the six members of its 2008-09 NISL All-Rookie Team, following a formal voting process that polled members of the media, as well as NISL coaches and general managers. Included in the All-Rookie team are two members of the first-place Baltimore Blast, two Monterrey La RaZa players, one player from the Rockford Rampage and one player from the Philadelphia KiXX. Voters were asked to select three forwards/midfielders, two defenders and one goalkeeper for this team.
The 14-4 Baltimore Blast placed midfielder Pat Healey and forward Adrian Bumbut on the All-Rookie Team, as the Blast clinched the regular season title and a bye into the Championship Game. Monterrey, who lost to Rockford in the Semifinals, have goalkeeper Steve Reese and midfielder Joel Busti on the All-Rookie Team. Rockford, who will play the Blast Saturday night in the 2009 NISL Championship Game, placed defender Roberto Gallo on the All-Rookie Team, while the Philadelphia KiXX are represented by defender Kevin Coleman.
Healey, the son of Blast President and General Manager Kevin Healey, appeared in 18 games for Baltimore and recorded 16 points (six goals, four assists). The 2007 Colonial Athletic Association Player of the Year out of Towson University, Healey scored a goal in three straight games from December 12 to January 3. Bumbut, who joined the Blast in November and made his debut at the end of January, tallied 14 points in just eight games. On February 14th he recorded five goals and one assists for 12 points in Baltimore's 37-5 win over the Massachusetts Twisters.
Reese, Monterrey's rookie goalkeeper, played in five games for La RaZa and posted a 3-0 record. He allowed 20 goals and posted a 14.50 points against average and a 67.2 save percentage in his first season. Monterrey's second representative, midfielder Joel Busti, appeared in 13 games and recorded five goals and three assists for 13 points.
Gallo, Rockford's representative, had five points (two goals, one assist) and 14 blocks in 11 games. Coleman, a defender from the KiXX, recorded an assist in his professional indoor debut on November 15 and added two blocks in 12 games this season. Coleman was an NSCAA All-American and Regional All-American selection from La Salle University.
About the National Indoor Soccer League The National Indoor Soccer League was launched in September of 2008 and consists of five founding members; the Baltimore Blast, La RaZa de Monterrey, Philadelphia KiXX, Rockford Rampage and the Massachusetts Twisters. The NISL has formed a working relationship with the United Soccer Leagues (USL) and has received provisional membership in the United States Soccer Federation (USSF).
The NISL kicked off its inaugural season on November 15th and concluded on March 29th. The 2009 NISL Championship Series consisted of three of the five NISL clubs competing in two rounds, the Semifinal Round and the Championship Game (April 11). The Rockford Rampage defeated the Monterrey La RaZa in the Semifinals to advance to play the Baltimore Blast in the Championship Game. The Blast claimed the regular season title and earned an automatic bye to host the Championship Game at 1st Mariner Arena on Saturday, April 11.
