River City Rascals News Release
O'FALLON, Mo. - The River City Rascals, presented by Progress West Healthcare, have signed St. Peters native, Kevin Reynolds, for the 2009 season. The left-handed hitting outfielder ended last season with the West Tennessee Diamond Jaxx, the Seattle Mariners' AA affiliate.
After being drafted in the 42nd round by the Mariners in 2005, the Desmet Catholic graduate spent three seasons in the Seattle farm system. Reynolds was a step below the major league squad in 2007, spending time with the Mariners' AAA affiliate in Tacoma.
"Having Kevin is a true blessing," commented Rascals manager Chad Parker. "He will provide a true top of the order threat to go along with an already experienced line-up."
Reynolds displayed that threat with a career .278 average in 672 at-bats in his minor league career with Seattle. The lefty also compiled 90 runs scored, 60 RBI, 36 stolen bases, and a .328 on-base percentage.
"Kevin will have an immediate impact on our younger players as they learn how to play the game," continued Parker. "Also having a local player with his ability can only mean great things for our organization."
Reynolds had an illustrious college career at Quincy University from 2002 to 2005. He was named a Division II Honorable Mention All-American in 2005 and was named to the All Great Lakes Valley First Team in 2004 and 2005. Reynolds also owns the career stolen base record at Quincy (82) and the single season for steals (42). A career .344 hitter, Reynolds is also second in school history with 210 hits and 610 at bats.
Reynolds becomes the second former Mariners' farmhand to join the Rascals in the last week. Chris Colton was acquired from the Florence Freedom a week ago after spending five plus seasons in the Mariners' organization. The two were teammates in 2007 on the High Desert Mavericks, Seattle's high A affiliate.
The River City Rascals open their home schedule at T.R. Hughes Ballpark on Saturday, May 23rd at 12:05 p.m. against the Gateway Grizzlies. For tickets or more information call (636)-240-BATS (2287) or visit www.rivercityrascals.com.
