April 2, 2009 - USL First Division (USL-1)
Fort Lauderdale Strikers News Release
April 2, 2009, Miami, FL - Miami FC continues to expand its reach and relationship with the South Florida soccer community by announcing today that it will play its home opener on Saturday, April 18th at 8pm against the Cleveland City Stars, 2008 USL-2 Champions, at Lockhart Stadium in the heart of Fort Lauderdale. This will be the first time that Miami FC plays an official home game outside of Dade County.
Lockhart Stadium is no stranger to professional soccer. It has been the official home of the Fort Lauderdale Strikers and the Miami Fusion and hosted countless international matches. Boasting some of the best facilities that South Florida has to offer, and a fan friendly environment, Lockhart Stadium has continually set the bar for all sporting events.
"We are very excited to play in Broward County for the first time" said team president Aaron Davidson. "Broward County has welcomed us with open arms and recognizes that Miami FC is all of South Florida's pro soccer team. Miami Dade, Broward and Palm Beach Counties may be diverse but they represent one united region - South Florida. We look forward to truly reaching out to all soccer players, coaches and fans during our upcoming fourth season."
Miami FC also confirmed that it will play its third regular season game on Sunday, April 26th at Lockhart Stadium at 6pm.
"The school board is absolutely thrilled to have professional soccer back in Fort Lauderdale," said Director of Athletics and Activities of Broward County Public Schools (Operator of Lockhart Stadium), Damian Huttenhoff, "We look forward to a very close partnership with Miami FC that will benefit the students and coaches with soccer skills and instructional development."
The team plans to play its second regular season game on Friday, April 24th at 8pm versus the Montreal Impact in Miami-Dade County and is currently considering FIU Stadium, Tropical Park Stadium, and Ted Hendricks Stadium as possible venues. Decisions regarding venues for future matches will be determined in due course.
Ticket prices for the 2009 season are $7 for children/students, $12 for adults and $20 for reserved seats. For more information, visit www.miamifc.com or call 305-728-2606.
