Lowell Spinners News Release
LOWELL, MA - The Lowell Spinners, Class A Affiliate of the Boston Red Sox, announced that for two nights during the 2009 season, the team and ballpark will go "Peanut Free" at LeLacheur Park Wednesday, July 1 and Sunday, August 2.
In an effort to recognize the most prevalent food allergy in the United States, where as many as 1.5 million people suffer from the disease according to American Academy of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology, the Spinners will eliminate the sale of all peanut products from the ballpark during the two "Peanut Free" dates during the 2009 season.
Additionally, each game has been scheduled as the first game of a Spinners' home stand, helping insure the stadium will be free of peanut shells after the entire facility is power washed.
"We are thrilled to be able to offer the opportunity for all fans to come to the ballpark," said Tim Bawmann, Vice President/GM of the Lowell Spinners. "Food allergies affect an alarming number of families across the world. Hopefully this allows families an additional opportunity to have an affordable entertainment option."
Peanuts and Cracker Jacks will be substituted from the famous "Take Me Out to the Ballgame" with more allergy-conscious choices and trained medical technicians will be on hand, as with any Spinners game, to attend to any emergencies.
The Spinners organization has already taken strides to ensure the facility was as friendly as possible to allergy sufferers. No peanut oil or ice cream products containing nuts are used served at LeLacheur Park and the stadium is power-washed following every game, removing peanut shells and skins from the seating bowl.
Individual tickets for the Spinners 2009 season, including our Peanut Free Nights, go on sale Tuesday, March 17 and Group Tickets and Gator Pit Outings can currently be booked by contacting the Spinners Box Office at 978-459-1702.
