March 10, 2009 - Indoor Football League (IFL)
Maryland Maniacs News Release

Laurel, MD (March 9, 2009) - Virginia born Bryson Spinner is the latest addition to the Maryland Maniacs of the Indoor Football League (IFL). The 6'3", 220 lb quarterback will join the Maniacs as they make their professional debut as an expansion member of the IFL for the league's 2009 season.

As a freshman Spinner was the starting quarterback at Gar-Field Senior High School in Woodbridge, Virginia. He later transferred to Episcopal High School in Alexandria, Virginia where he lettered all three years in football, basketball, and track and field and was the Senior Captain of all three sports. Spinner was instrumental in the basketball team's three state championships, and garnered MVP honors all three years. His performance on the football field under the direction of head coach Mark Gowin was equally impressive as he threw for 1388 yards and 16 touchdowns and ran for 888 yards for 21 touchdowns. He led the team to the Independent Athletic Conference title with an undefeated 9-0 season. During his time at Episcopal Spinner was named first team All-League, All-District, All-Metro as well as IAC First Team in basketball and football. He was ranked as the #1 quarterback in Virginia by The Washington Post his senior year and was rated the #8 football prospect in Virginia by SuperPrep.

Spinner matriculated to the University of Virginia in 1999 and redshirted his freshman year. When starting quarterback Dan Ellis was sidelined due to injury in 2000, the 6'2" sophomore started over fellow redshirt freshman quarterback Matt Schaub, receiving the bulk of the playing time. One of his most impressive performances at Virginia came in 2001 with a 39-38 victory over Georgia Tech. Spinner completed 32-of-46 passes against the Yellow Jackets for a season-high 327 yards and five touchdowns. Spinner also ran 10 times for 86 yards and won the game on a dramatic hook-and-ladder play in the closing seconds. Spinner was 5-1 as the starter that season. At the end of the year Spinner transferred to the University of Richmond Spiders, coached by Jim Reid. Spinner underwent surgery and returned for the 2003 season.

Spinner's professional career began in 2004 when he signed as a free agent with the Jacksonville Jaguars, where he was later released. He was then picked up by the Seattle Seahawks, completed preseason training camp, and was released before the start of the season. In 2005, he signed with the Washington Redskins, completed training camp and was later released. In January 2006, Spinner signed with the San Francisco 49ers, and was allocated to the Frankfurt Galaxy in NFL Europa. Spinner helped lead the Galaxy to a 7-3 season, ultimately winning World Bowl XIV.

Spinner will be at the helm of the Maniacs team in the key quarterback position. "Spinner looks good in practice. Although he's new to indoor football, his overseas experience has helped him make an impressive transition and adjusted well to the game," Stated Head Coach Matt Steeple. "Bryson is an exciting addition to the Maniacs and I believe he's going to help contribute to the success of this team," Steeple further stated. "Indoor football definitely takes some getting used to, but at the end of the day it's still football and Bryson knows football," stated Director of Football Operations Robert Holmes.
