Lamar Announced As Voice Of The Rascals

River City Rascals News Release


The River City Rascals, presented by Progress West Healthcare, are pleased to announce the addition of Jason Lamar to the organization as the new Director of Broadcasting and Media Relations. Lamar will serve as the team's lead play-by-play announcer for all 96 regular season games in 2009.

Lamar joins the Rascals after spending the previous 18 months at ESPN Radio 1380 in the Rockford, Illinois area. Serving as the Sports Director his final six months, Lamar's duties included co-hosting a daily talk show, performing sportscenter updates, and various play-by-play for the station. Lamar was also the lead announcer for the Beloit Snappers, the Minnesota Twins low "A" affiliate.

Rascals Executive Vice President & General Manager Chris Franklin is looking forward to working with the Rascals newest member. "Jason's overall enthusiasm and approach will serve him and our organization well this summer." "We're looking forward to working with Jason."

"I'm extremely excited for this opportunity and can't wait for the season to get started," Lamar said. "The Rascals have been nothing but professional during the whole process and I'm looking forward to a great summer not only with the organization, but also with the fans."

A Lebanon, Illinois native, Lamar graduated from North Central College in Naperville, Illinois in 2006 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in broadcast communication and marketing. In addition to earning several awards during college, Lamar spent two summers with the DuPage Dragons in the Central Illinois Collegiate League (CICL) as a broadcaster.

Outside of baseball, Lamar's play-by-play experience includes calling NCAA Division III football and basketball contests and for the Rock River Raptors of the Continental Indoor Football League (CIFL).

Lamar currently resides in the metro-east area and is attending Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville for a master's degree in mass communications.

All 2009 Friday, Saturday, and Sunday Rascals games will air live on 590 the Fan KFNS, while all 96 regular season games can be heard at www.kfns.com.
