Camden Riversharks News Release
CAMDEN - The Camden Riversharks announced today that three former players have signed Minor League contracts as spring training begins. Felix Rodriguez has been invited to camp with the Boston Red Sox, and Gabriel Suarez will join the San Francisco Giants for spring training. Jason Phillips has signed with the Seattle Mariners AA affiliate.
Right handed pitcher Felix Rodriguez joins the Red Sox organization with eleven years of Major League playing experience. Previously, he has pitched for the Dodgers, Reds, Diamondbacks, Giants, Phillies, Yankees, and Nationals. Last season, Rodriguez appeared in 32 games for the Riversharks, and finished the year with a 1.09 ERA. He pitched 33.0 innings, allowed 6 earned runs, and struck out 25 batters.
Infielder Gabriel Suarez will participate in spring training with the San Francisco Giants. Originally drafted by the Montreal Expos in 2004, he has spent the past two seasons playing in the Atlantic League. Last season, Suarez played both third base and shortstop for the Riversharks, compiling a .226 batting average and driving in 27 runs.
Joining Rodriguez and Suarez in Minor League camps will be veteran catcher Jason Phillips, who has signed a contract with the Seattle Mariners organization. Before signing with the Atlanta Braves and being sent to AAA Richmond last season, Phillips played in 42 games with the Riversharks, where he amassed a .302 batting average and 38 RBI.
"As always, we are extremely happy for all of our players who move on to Major League organizations," said Riversharks General Manager, Adam Lorber. "We wish Felix, Gabe, and Jason nothing but the best, and thank them for their contributions to the team," he added.
The Riversharks have now had fourteen of their players sign with Major League organizations since last year, more than any other team in the Atlantic League. Last season, the Riversharks won the first half divisional championship, as well as a Liberty Division Championship.
