Wichita Wild News Release
The Wichita Wild of the Indoor Football League (IFL) has added two experienced wide receivers for the 2009 season. The Wild signed Clinton Solomon who spent the 2008 season with the Chicago Rush of the Arena Football League (AFL) and starred at the University of Iowa. The team also re-signed Carlos Cavanaugh who led the Wild in touchdowns in 2008. Solomon and Cavanaugh are brothers.
Solomon spent the entire 2008 season on the Chicago Rush's practice squad. He was expected to be a starter in 2009, before the AFL canceled the upcoming season. Solomon spent the spring and summer of 2007 with the Tennessee Titans before being released as training camp began. Solomon then signed with the Chicago Bears and was let go prior to the season begining. The Ft. Worth, TX native signed as an undrafted free agent with the St. Louis Rams in 2006 and was released in the final cut down before the season.
Solomon played at the University of Iowa during the 2002, 2004, and 2005 seasons. He finished his career ranked 4th in Iowa history in touchdown receptions and 7th in career receiving yards. Following his junior season in 2004, Solomon was named to the All-Big 10 Second Team after catching 58 passes for 905 yards and 6 TD's. Solomon left the Hawkeyes for the 2003 season and played at Iowa Central Community College in Ft. Dodge, IA
Cavanaugh is entering his second season of professional football. In 2008 he caught 24 passes for 336 yards. Cavanaugh caught 11 touchdown passes which led the team and was 10th in the UIF last season. Cavanaugh also averaged 24.9 yards per kick return. Cavanaugh spent training camp in 2007 with the Omaha Beef of the IFL. He suffered a hamstring injury two days before the season started and missed the entire campaign.
Cavanaugh's final season of playing college football was in 2004 at West Texas A & M. Before joining the Buffaloes, Cavanaugh played at Kilgore Junior College (TX). The Ft. Worth, TX native played quarterback for the Rangers during the 2002 and 2003 seasons.
