Lowell Spinners News Release

A new year is here and the Spinners are happy to let you know the Lowell Spinners will be a fixture at LeLacheur Park for years to come. We hope you all had a very happy holiday season and are as excited for the return of spring and baseball as we are here at the ballpark.

Our Seventh Annual Lowell Spinners Alumni Dinner is right around the corner, to be held Monday night at the DoubleTree Hotel in downtown Lowell. Our honored guest Jed Lowrie, along with many of your favorite former Spinners and Red Sox personal will be in attendance and one lucky fan will have the opportunity to sit at the head table next to Jed.

Read on to find out how your child can be the talk of the school after a night hanging out with Jed Lowrie and all the rest of the Spinners news fit to print, plus your chance to win a copy of the Red Sox DVD "Faith Rewarded," remembering the historic season of the 2004 Boston Red Sox, in the Pespi Trivia.

The Lowell Spinners unveiled a new primary logo this month and hats and apparel are now in stock. The sharp new S, with the familiar Spindle Bat, is available in multiple colors and styles now on hats, t-shirts and sweatshirts!

Sit Next to Jed Lowrie at Monday's Alumni Dinner

In an effort to raise money for the Joann Weber Charitable Fund leading up to our seventh annual Alumni Dinner Monday, January 12, the Lowell Spinners are offering the opportunity for one fan to take a place along side our featured guest, Jed Lowrie, at the head table during the festivities. This opportunity provided a highlight for one fan last year who got to hang out with Sox closer Jonathan Papelbon, and we hope to provide the same memories this year. The winning bidder gets one seat with Jed Lowrie at the head table for a child (15-and-under) and a second seat for a parent/guardian in the front row for this sold out event. All money raised goes directly to the Joann Weber Charitable Fund.

DiSarcina Receives BBWA Award, Set to Attend Dinner Spinners' skipper Gary DiSarcina, who will be returning to manage the Spinners for a third season in 2009 (the first manager in Spinners history to do so), was awarded a special achievement award at the Jan. 8 Boston Baseball Writers Association Dinner, held at the Westin Waterfront Hotel in Boston. DiSarcina was nominated for the award after leading the 2008 Spinners to a Stedler Division Title and the first playoff appearance in franchise history. DiSarcina accepted the award at the annual dinner with several Spinners staffers on hand to celebrate the honor. Congratulations, DiSar! Westford Academy Takes Home the Gator For the first time, the Lowell Spinners were a part of the Greater Lowell Holiday Basketball Tournament, putting the three-foot Canaligator Bobble Head Trophy on the line for the winning team in the eight team tournament held Dec. 27, 28 and 30. After three days of intense competition, a fitting ending arose in a match-up between the Acton Boxboro Colonials and the Westford Academy Ghosts. Four quarters was not enough to settle what the Lowell Sun called an "Instant Classic," but the Ghosts emerged with a one-point 95-94 victory to secure the Gator Trophy. The Ghosts earned the right display the trophy in their school until early May when the trophy will be presented to the winner of the Lowell Spinners World Series held right here at LeLacheur Park.
