Dickerson Named Iowa Cubs Manager for 2009

Des Moines, IA- The Cubs announced today Bobby Dickerson will be the Iowa Cubs Manager in 2009. Von Joshua, Mike Mason and Matt Johnson return to the Iowa Cubs as hitting coach, pitching coach and athletic trainer respectively.

Dickerson spent the past three seasons as an infield and bunting coordinator in the Cubs system. Prior to that, he managed Chicago's double-A affiliate in West Tenn from 2002-05. Dickerson will be Iowa's 15th manager since their affiliation with the Cubs began in 1981. He replaces 2008 Pacific Coast League Manager of the Year, Pat Listach, now on the Washington Nationals' staff.

In 2006, Dickerson served as interim manager of the Iowa Cubs when Mike Quade was promoted to Chicago to coach third base. That year, the Cubs posted a 6-5 record under Dickerson's guidance.

From 1998-99 Dickerson was the infield instructor for the Arizona Diamondbacks. Dickerson managed the Bluefield (A) Orioles from 1996-97 and was the Baltimore Orioles' minor league infield instructor from 1994-97. In 2000 Dickerson managed the Diamondbacks' single-A team. In his seven-year managerial career, Dickerson posted a 526-390 (.574) record and led five teams to the playoffs, including back-to-back Appalachian League championships with the Bluefield Orioles in 1996-97.

Dickerson was drafted in the 23rd round of the 1987 amateur draft by the New York Yankees and played seven seasons in the minors with the Yankees and Orioles. Bobby and his wife Christine reside in Laurel, Mississippi, with their two children, Ashley and Dustin.

Joshua will return to the Iowa Cubs for his fourth year as hitting coach and his seventh year with the organization while Mason returns for his second year as pitching coach for Iowa. Johnson returns to Iowa for his second season and his eighth in the Cubs' organization.

The Iowa Cubs open the 2009 season on April 9 at Round Rock. The home opener is Friday, April 17.
