SACRAMENTO, CALIF., Dec. 3, 2008 - The Sacramento Monarchs today announced forward DeMya Walker underwent successful surgery this morning on her right patella to remove and repair a broken screw from prior surgery. Monarchs Team Doctor, Kirk Lewis, performed the surgery and a complete recovery is expected.

This November, Walker was playing with her overseas team, CCC Polkowice located in Poland; an evaluation determined the broken screw.

Originally, Walker suffered a patellar fracture in her right knee on April 27, 2008, while playing with her team Nadezhda, located in Orenburg, Russia. She underwent successful surgery on May 2, 2008, under the care of Monarchs Team Doctor Richard Marder. She was expected to be out six months, but went through rehabilitation and was cleared by team doctors on July 21 to play the remainder of the 2008 season.

Walker has played six seasons with the Monarchs after being selected by the franchise as the fifth overall pick in the 2003 WNBA Dispersal Draft. She appeared in seven games for the Monarchs to conclude the 2008 season and all three playoff games.

Through eight WNBA seasons, Walker has played in 207 games and averaged 20.6 minutes, 8.3 points, 3.8 rebounds, 1.4 assists, 0.7 steals and 0.5 blocks per game. Additionally, the 2005 WNBA All-Star selection was an integral part of the Monarchs 2005 WNBA Championship team.
