CAMDEN, N.J.-Former Camden Riversharks catcher-turned-relief pitcher Ben Davis is back with a Major League organization. Davis, 30, who previously has play in the big leagues for seven years as a catcher, has been signed by the Cincinnati Reds as a right-handed reliever.
Davis was the Sharks' starting catcher during the 2007 season before being picked up by the Los Angeles Dodgers. He went to spring training with the Baltimore Orioles this season before being released from Double-A Bowie. He joined the Riversharks in August as a right handed reliever.
After making the transition to pitcher Davis made six appearances with Camden, three as a reliever and three as a starter. He was 2-1 with a 3.00 ERA and held opponents to a .221 batting average against him. Davis, a Chester PA native, signed a minor league contract with the Cincinnati Reds on November 11th and is expected to compete for a job with the Reds AA affiliate.
