Fort Lauderdale Strikers News Release
About 4,000 Miami-Dade County residents will be walking to raise funds for the American Heart Association next Saturday, October 11, at 8 am, at Tropical Park. The Start! Heart Walk will feature Miami FC Angels, the official cheerleading squad of the only professional pro soccer team in South Florida and also Hotshot, the beloved Miami FC's mascot. They will be cheering the Start! Heart Walk participants at the beginning and finishing lines. People can register on the spot and registration is free!
And this year, participants will also be encouraged to start a journey to a healthier lifestyle - with Start! The American Heart Association's physical activity movement, Start!, is transforming Heart Walk, the association's annual fund-raising event, into an experience that will create hope, inspire change and celebrate success.
Studies show that for every one hour of regular exercise, a person can gain two more hours of life. Start! calls on all Americans and their employers to create a culture of physical activity and health through walking, so that they can live longer, heart-healthy lives. Each year, 1.2 million Americans will suffer a coronary attack and 700,000 will have a stroke. A leading risk factor for heart attack and stroke is lack of physical activity. By adopting a lifestyle of physical activity, individuals can reduce their healthcare costs, increase their productivity and improve their overall quality of life and longevity.
