Frisco RoughRiders News Release
In the fifth and final game of the Texas League Championship Series, Arkansas defeated the RoughRiders 11-3
The RoughRiders were one win away from their first Texas League Championship since 2004, but Arkansas stood in the way as the Travelers defeated the 'Riders 11-3 Monday night at Dr Pepper Ballpark. For Arkansas, it was their first Championship since 2001 as the Travelers had the lowest number of wins (62) in the regular season to win the Texas League Championship in the modern era.
The RoughRiders struck first with an RBI groundout by Dustin Majewski to score Elvis Andrus and put Frisco up 1-0. Neftali Feliz looked sharp in the first two innings, but got into trouble in the third frame as he allowed four runs as the Travelers took the lead and wouldn't look back. Frisco cut the Arkansas lead in half at 4-2 with an RBI single by Emerson Frostad to score Majewski, but a seven-run sixth inning propelled the Travelers to a sizeable lead at 11-2. The 'Riders added one more run on a solo shot from Johnny Whittleman, but the deficit was too much to overcome as Arkansas went on to win.
Feliz (1-2) was the losing pitcher as he finished with three innings, allowing four runs on three hits, striking out four. Arkansas Dan Denham went just four frames and took the no-decision as the win went to Barret Browning (2-0) who pitched two scoreless innings.
Although the RoughRiders ended the season with a loss, the 2008 campaign was one of the best in franchise history. Congratulations to Manager Scott Little and all the players for their numerous accomplishments throughout the season.
